RAINS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

A man has been taken into custody following a manhunt that went well into the night in Rains County.

The Rains County Sheriff's Office, DPS, and the Texas Rangers were looking for Brandon Couch in connection to the death of his grandmother, 78-year-old, Mattie Couch.

DPS said that just after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Mattie's son contacted the Rains County Sheriff's Office to report that he'd found Mattie Couch dead at her residence in the 500 block of County Road 1421 in Point, Texas. She'd been shot once in the chest.

Authorities identified Couch's grandson, Brandon Couch, as a person of interest in the case. Couch lived with his grandmother.

Brandon Couch was spotted in a wooded area near his grandmother's home around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon, but he fled on foot. Authorities say Couch reappeared briefly before disappearing into the woods again. He was located near a mobile home in that wooded area just after 10 p.m. and taken into custody.
