CLINTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The sacrifice veterans have made for our country is recognized with a new sculpture in Clinton.

The unveiling revealed a Marine carrying a fallen comrade.

More than 200 people attended the dedication Sunday afternoon at the Clinton Visitors Center. A number of veterans and dignitaries were also on hand.

The monument was inspired by the true story of two Marines from Clinton.

Mississippi College Art Professor Dr. Sam Gore was tasked to design the symbol of courage and compassion.

He knew the families of the two marines and took the project to heart.

"I have enjoyed every bit of it, been blessed with all of the people I've gotten to know," explained Gore of the project.

The base features the emblems from the branches of the military.

You can see permanent display at the Clinton Visitors Center.
