CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The man suspected of stabbing another man in Cherokee County Thursday afternoon was captured Friday morning after investigators found him hiding under a pile of blankets, according to officials.

Capt. John Raffield, of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, said investigators continued their search for Shawn Anthony Reep, 31, in the ShadyBrook subdivision near Lake Palestine early Friday morning.

Around 10:30 a.m., officials checked a home Reep was known to frequent. Reep was not found in the home, but investigators searched a small travel trailer next to the residence, they found Reep hiding under a pile of blankets on a bed, Raffield said.

Reep was arrested and transported to Cherokee County Jail on an outstanding warrant for violating a protective order stemming from an incident that occurred several weeks earlier.

The hunt for Reep stemmed from a Thursday afternoon incident. Sheriff's deputies were called to a scene around 1:30 p.m. where a man had been stabbed in the abdomen. Authorities identified the suspect as Reep.

Witnesses told investigators that Johnson and a friend went into a home in the 600 block of Elizabeth Drive in the ShadyBrook subdivision near Lake Palestine.

Investigators say Reep and two other men were at the scene when the victim, Joseph Lee Johnson, 31, of Bullard, pulled into the driveway. Officials say Reep recognized Johnson and approached him as he was exiting the vehicle. Reep and Johnson reportedly exchanged words, and Reep stabbed him at least once.

Johnson was taken to a neighbor's house, who called EMS and the Sheriff's Office.

Johnson was transported to East Texas Medical Center-Tyler where he underwent emergency surgery. As of Thursday night, Johnson was recovering in ICU and in stable condition.

According to the Sheriff's Office, after Johnson left the home on Elizabeth, Reep forced his way in and threatened the homeowner with a knife. The homeowner grabbed a display sword and hit Reep on the head, authorities said.

Investigators said Reep chased the homeowner down the street, but failed to catch him. When deputies and investigators arrived in the area, Reep and the other men drove away. The suspect vehicle was abandoned less than a mile away, and officials said Reep ran into the woods. The other two men remained near the car and officers questioned them at the scene.
