WLOX Editorial: Thank you veterans

Posted: Updated:

The Mississippi Gulf Coast is blessed to have thousands of veterans in our midst. Our heroes fought in World War II and all wars up to and including the current conflict in Afghanistan. Today, November 11th, is their day.

Veteran's Day- a day set aside to honor the men and women who have made so many sacrifices so we can remain a free nation. This tradition dates back to 1918 with the signing of the armistice which ended World War One.

This past week there have been many observances to honor our veterans. Like in Gautier where the school system had a wonderful breakfast and program to honor those in our community who have served their country.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast is a region of the country that understands the significance of our veterans. With our many military bases and governmental facilities, we are used to seeing military personnel on a daily basis. Many of these veterans have found the Mississippi Gulf Coast a great place to live after their military service.

We salute you, our Veteran, on this special day. Furthermore we want you to know that we appreciate and respect what you have done each and every day of the year.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
