Southern Miss & Nebraska to be played at Arrowhead Stadium?

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Nebraska and Southern Miss agreed to three-game contract and the 2012 game was played in Lincoln.

The Golden Eagles and Cornhuskers were slated to clash on September 7, 2013 in Hattiesburg but officials are close to signing an agreement to move the game to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

Reportedly Southern Miss would receive a check for two-million dollars and that would help the university financially.  The Golden Eagles athletic program had a deficit of over a million dollars before the 2012 football season kicked off.

Southern Miss alumni, fans and students are not happy with the present direction of the football program.  Heading to SMU this Saturday the Golden Eagles under head coach Ellis Johnson are winless after nine games.  About 10,000 fans turned out for Saturday's UAB game in Hattiesburg.

If the Nebraska game is moved to Kansas City, some influential alumni would like to see the Southern Miss officials use some of that money to payoff the remaining contract of Johnson and move in another direction.
