PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

When Pascagoula was struggling to pick up the pieces after Hurricane Katrina, people from Bergon County, NJ came to the rescue.  Now, Pascagoula has a chance to return the favor.

WLOX News has just learned the City of Pascagoula is collecting items for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.  Over the next 10 days, the city will collect clothing, cooking utensils, linens, towels, gas cans, non-perishable foods, and personal care items.  We're told any donations of gas cans, food, and personal care items must be new.  However, clothing and other items may be used.

Here's the plan:  the donations will be shipped to Bergon County, NJ for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.  A news release from Pascagoula's police department says, "The citizens from Bergon County helped the City of Pascagoula and Jackson County during the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. It is now our time to return the favor and give back to our fellow Americans."

If you can make a donation, take your items to one of the following drop off locations:

Pascagoula Police Department at 611 Live Oak Ave.

Central Fire Station at 1707 Jackson Ave.

Lake Ave. Fire Station at 1411 Lake Ave.

Bayou Cassotte Fire Station at 3608 Scovel Ave.

Pascagoula Parks and Recreation Department at 2935 Pascagoula St.

If you have any questions you can contact Jamie Redding, Administrative Assistant at the Pascagoula Police Department, at 228-938-6671.  Donations will be accepted until November 12.
