Body found in MS Sound has been identified

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said the body found in the Mississippi Sound on Thursday is 36-year-old Samuel Begner of Atlanta, GA.

An autopsy indicates Begner died from drowning Sunday.

His body was found after a person checking on crab pots near the Small Craft Harbor in Gulfport spotted Begner's body in shallow water around 9 Wednesday morning.

Responders recovered his body about a quarter of a mile off shore, just south of Kelly Avenue.

Hargrove said, Begner traveled to the Gulf Coast on Friday to visit the casinos.

A Gulfport Community Service Tech spotted a car parked Sunday at Gulf Avenue and Hwy 90. When the car was still there on Monday, authorities ran Begner's tag and discovered he was reported missing from Atlanta.

He reportedly packed a two man inflatable kayak in his vehicle. Authorities said that kayak was missing from its box.

Gulfport police said they do not suspect foul play at this time.
