Some Jackson County supervisors don't want to see people carrying guns in parks and other public areas despite a new gun law in the state. As WLOX has reported, starting July 1st Mississippians will be able to openly carry a gun and other weapons with or without a permit.   Some Jackson county leaders want to create a local ordinance to keep weapons in check.

This Tuesday is election day. Polls in Mississippi will be open from 7 AM to 7 PM. While the Presidential candidates have spent little to no time in our state, we have all had a chance to learn about their platforms from several Presidential and Vice-Presidential debates, news and web coverage. We hear the popular vote for the two presidential candidates is going to be close so each vote is important.

Besides the Presidential election in South Mississippi we have three major races to vote on Tuesday.  There is the Fourth Congressional District Seat, a United States Senate seat and the election of a state supreme court justice.

In certain communities voters will also select school board members as well as election commissioners and constable.

Greene County residents will decide whether to approve the sale of beer and light wine in their community.

Thousands of American military men and women are in war torn areas right now defending our freedoms which include the right to vote for the candidate of our choice. Go out Tuesday and make a difference in your community and country.

Please vote.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
