BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Former LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson pleaded no contest Wednesday morning to a charge related to a brawl outside a Baton Rouge nightclub over a year ago.

"He's entered a no contest. This allows Jordan to get out of jail and come home. He's not taking responsibility and he still believes he's innocent of any civil liabilities of this, but this allows him to get released and he's accepted some conditions of probation. It's what the judge wants," said defense attorney Jimmy Manassa.

He was sentenced to one year of probation following the plea. The judge also fined Jefferson $100 and ordered him to perform 30 hours of community service. For his community service, he must talk to kids and encourage them to stay in school. Jefferson will also be randomly drug tested.

"This opened my eyes to a lot of things," Jefferson said. "Made me aware of a lot of things."

The judge also asked Jefferson to talk to LSU football players about putting themselves in bad positions. WAFB called Coach Miles to see if he would allow Jefferson to speak to the players, but we have not heard back from him.

A grand jury decided to charge Jefferson with simple battery on Sept. 29, 2011 in connection with a fight outside Shady's Bar on Aug. 19, 2011.

Jefferson was ordered back to jail Tuesday for violating the conditions of his bond on that charge when he was arrested on drug charges Thursday.

Since he has now entered a plea and was sentenced, he will be released from prison.

His next hearing on the Shady's Bar incident is scheduled for Dec. 12. Jefferson will return to court on January 25, 2013 to answer to the drug charge from last week.
