A woman was killed Saturday in an early morning fire in Gulfport. 68-year-old JoAn Simondson died shortly after a fire broke out in her mobile home on 7th Street around 4 a.m.
The woman's husband and dog managed to make it out safely by fleeing through the back door. Investigators believe Mrs. Simondson ran to another part of the mobile home shortly after the fire broke out, to try to make an emergency call. Simondson's body was found in the hallway.
Fire officials say the blaze broke out in the master bedroom,and investigators believe a cigarette was the cause. The fire has been ruled accidental.
