(WMC-TV) - Investigators are hoping answers will come in a toxicology report from the driver accused of hitting and killing two Ole Miss students.
Oxford Police Chief Mike Martin says a warrant was obtained to draw blood as the driver recuperates from moderate injuries in a hospital.
The head-on collision happened around 11 a.m. Saturday.
According to Oxford police, the driver of a Chevy Tahoe swerved over a median, and hit another vehicle head-on.
Sarah Wheat, 24, who was driving the car that was hit, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her brother, John Wheat, 30, was airlifted to The MED, where he later died.
Ole Miss students, who are still reeling from the deaths of three students in another crash less than one year ago, are stunned.
"They were good friends of mine and this really hits home that this happened, again," said Ole Miss student Alex Rawling.
"So many people are touched by this. Family, friends, classmates, instructors, neighbors, and we just want the Wheat family to know that they are in our thoughts and prayers," said Ole Miss Dean of Students Dr. Thomas Reardon.
Sarah and John's Facebook pages indicate they are from Crofton, Maryland, but Sarah indicated that Ole Miss was her "favorite place to be."
This is one of her favorite quotes:
"When you were born, everyone around you was smiling and you were crying. Live your life so that when you die, you're smiling and everyone around you is crying."
The driver, who police say crossed the median, was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. Investigators are waiting on the toxicology reports to determine whether charges will be filed.
