Black market gas arrest on I-10

Posted: Updated:

A routine traffic stop on I-10 Friday near the DeLisle exit turned into quite a find for Harrison County sheriff's deputies.

Around 10am, they pulled over a truck because the license tag was partially hidden. What they found was a massive holding tank under the truck that could store as many as 600 gallons of fuel.

Deputies also realized the two men in the truck were using gift cards that had been altered to include stolen credit card information on the magnetic strip. That is what they would use to buy the diesel fuel, then they would sell that diesel fuel on the illegal market.

Major Tony Sauro said this is a very common crime these days. He said Harrison County deputies have made at least eight arrests this year of people stealing credit card numbers and loading those onto a gift card, then using that to purchase merchandise.

The men in the truck, Nelson Lina Martin and Oscar Kolb Sosa, are both residents of Tampa, Florida. Friday, they were being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center charged with possession of counterfeit instruments.
