ATF: St. Martin hotel fire was intentionally set

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Investigators believe the fire that destroyed the Howard Johnson Inn on Highway 609 was intentionally set.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Mississippi State Fire Marshal's Office, the Jackson County Fire Department and the Fort Bayou Volunteer Fire Department have been investigating the October 17th blaze that caused an estimated $4 million in damage.

The agencies did not release details on the origin or cause of the fire, saying the criminal investigation is on-going.

"Local ATF special agents will continue to work in partnership on the investigation with the Mississippi State Fire Marshal's Office and the Jackson County Fire Department until the individual(s) responsible are brought to justice," said Gulfport ATF Resident Agent in Charge Joel Lee.
