GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Anthony Michael Stewart, 30, of Gulfport was arrested following a stand-off with Gulfport police around 3:30 Saturday morning.

Capt. Craig Petersen said Stewart is a parolee and was at a relative's home at the 2300 Block of Robert Avenue in Orange Grove when officers arrived to serve a Mississippi Department of Corrections warrant for parole violations.

Police and the Gulfport SWAT team made several attempts to get Stewart to leave the home. Petersen said a lady and child left the home, however, Stewart stayed inside despite police efforts to get him out.

"When all efforts failed, we forced entry," Petersen said.

Shortly before 7 a.m. Stewart was taken into police custody.

He is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. His bond has not been set yet.
