HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

"It's time for a change," said University of Southern Mississippi band student Kristopher Chandler.

After having to wear a band uniform that is a century old, Chandler is ready for change.

"We are not only like the performance face of the university, but nationally, internationally whenever people hear University of Southern Mississippi, they automatically think Pride of Mississippi marching band," said Chandler. "We need to have that modern, sharp, presentable look to us to accommodate our reputation."

The university as well as the staff and students believe it's time for a new look.

"Uniform life ranges from eight to ten years, and it's time to replace them," said USM Director of band Catherine Rand. "So right now we're trying to get the community, the band, the faculty, and alumns, and students of USM to help us pick the new uniform for the next century."

Beginning with seven designs, the university has narrowed it down to three. Now they need help in choosing one. By creating a Facebook page, the university gives the community a chance to vote for their favorite. Aside from voting, one lucky voter will also be awarded.

Voting closes October 26, so don't forget to vote.
