Expo honors local successful business women

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

This week is National Business Women's Week and the Lighthouse Business and Professional Women are celebrating it by honoring the achievements of professional women from across the Gulf Coast.

"The mission is to bring working women together through networking and also supporting our community through charitable donations," said Lighthouse BPW President Brenda Blount.

Blount said the expo is their biggest event every year.

"It's important because we believe business women go out and mentor in their community," said Blount.

Marie Porter is a chairwoman on the organization said the motivation comes down to one thing.

"Think about the woman that excel in your life," said Blount.

Amber Olsen had a table at the expo and said she cannot begin to express her gratitude for BPW.

"The professionalism of the women and the services they offer and the working opportunities is probably the biggest thing," said Olsen.

The BPW was founded in 1919 and the Lighthouse BPW was founded in 1949.

"Every year it gets bigger and bigger and we're very excited," said Blount.

As they look forward, their message is heard loud and clear.

"I think it shows how successful people are and the opportunities that are out there," said Olsen.
