Gulfport kidnapping investigation expands

It's WLOX News Director Brad Kessie. We're following a developing story in Gulfport this afternoon. The man accused of kidnapping a girl on Sunday has been charged with a second count of kidnapping. The suspect is 53 year old Terry Slater. According to Gulfport Police, they have evidence that links Slater to two kidnapping attempts near Central Elementary School.  Steve Phillips has the latest from police on WLOX News at 6:00.

A guilty plea in a two year old DUI case. Christopher Harper will spend 16 years in jail for DUI causing the death of Angelia Laster. We have video of that October, 2010 accident, and it's pretty horrifying. A ball of fire consumes Laster's car. Prosecutors said Harper's blood alcohol level was over the legal limit when his car slammed into the woman at the base of the Highway 90 high rise bridge near Gautier.

And congratulations to Jeff Davis Elementary School teacher Pheon Chatman. The Biloxi Rotary Club presented the fifth grade math teacher its prestigious Beverly Briscoe Award. Chatman was recognized for helping to raise math scores at her school, and for raising money to buy defibrillators for area schools. The mother of the 8-year-old who was hit and killed by a truck on Hwy 90 last week spoke at today's Biloxi City Council meeting. You'll hear her first words about the tragic accident tonight on WLOX News at 10pm
