WIGGINS, MS (WLOX) -

Stone County School District Director of Special Services Wendy Rogers said the school district is in the process of completing an investigation on an accident involving two of the district's school buses Monday.

Officials said one of Stone County District's school buses rear-ended another district bus on Highway 49 in Stone County. Officials said seven students had only minor injuries, and all were being treated at Stone County Hospital.

"There were some injuries and all were treated. A majority of the students involved in the accident have returned to school. It does appear to be an accident and no negligence involved," Rogers said.

According to Wiggins Police Chief Matt Barnett, the accident happened in the southbound lane of Highway 49 near the Wiggins Walmart. He said one school bus drove into the back of another school bus.

One of the school buses involved in the accident started back on the route Tuesday. However, the other bus is being repaired.

"All safety procedures will be reviewed by the district," Rogers said.

Rogers said she expects that investigation to be completed sometime this week.

Wiggins Fire Chief Jody Hatten said, there was a total of 62 Stone Middle School students riding in both buses. They were headed to Perkinston.
