Circus elephants headed to LA involved in I-10 accident
HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -
If you were driving on the westbound lanes of I-10 near mile marker 8 in Hancock County you may have seen an unusual sight Sunday night.
Four circus elephants were involved in an accident after the truck pulling their trailer ran off the road.
West Hancock County Fire and Rescue officials said, another vehicle ran the truck and trailer off the road. The truck was totaled and all but one of the elephants had to be transferred to a new trailer.
"They were a little shook up and scared. One of the elephants was so mad they just kept it in the trailer," said Kurt Necaise with West Hancock County Fire and Rescue.
Necaise said the elephants are part of the Coleman Bro. Circus of The Stars and were on their way to a performance in Hammond, LA.
Officials with the West Hancock Fire Department, the Hancock County Sheriff's Department, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the accident.
Combined the elephants are reportedly worth $6 million.
