BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) -

Four Baton Rouge, LA men were rescued after their boat ran aground on Taylor Key Reef Saturday around 2 a.m., according to Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) officials.

MDMR Public Relations Director Lauren Thompson said two of the boaters sustained serious injuries, while the other two suffered minor injuries.

The boaters launched their boat from New Orleans and were headed to Biloxi when their 30 foot cuddy cabin boat got stuck on the concrete reef located southeast of Bay St. Louis. The accident caused half of the boat to go underwater while the other half of the boat was found on the reef, Thompson described.

She said the men shot off flares to help rescuers find them since they had no navigational equipment onboard.

MDMR Marine Patrol officers and the U.S. Coast Guard arrived at scene around 2:25 a.m.The men were reportedly found sitting on the reef wearing life jackets.

Two of the men with serious injuries were transported to Memorial Hospital in Gulfport for treatment.
