Motorcycle convention testing, sharpening skills

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

New motorcycle riders are getting a chance to learn from some of the best this weekend. The Gold Wing Road Riders Association is holding its Mississippi State convention on the Gulf Coast.

As part of the event, organizers set up courses at the Promenade in D'Iberville. Novice riders got to spend time learning advanced maneuvers that can help them when they're on the road.

"You never get in an accident from being too good at riding these, so we want a controlled environment where they can practice turning better than they did yesterday, turning tighter," Randy Rodriguez with Gold Wing Road Riders Association said.

"Maybe having a passenger and some doing some advanced skills where they're in no danger. So sometimes if they need them and Lord knows you do with cell phones and texting, you have them when you need them most."

The convention also included performances from the Gold Wing motorcycle drill team.
