GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

How bad is the drive once you make the turn off Highway 49 heading down Middle Drive in Gulfport?

One driver said me he counted 77 bumps in the road from 49 to Walmart's parking lot.

Others may not count them but they're frustrated.

Thomas Brewer said, "I have a sports car and I pretty much bottom out on it every time I go through there and just worried about the underside of my car getting messed up."

Candace Stevison said she isn't happy about it either.

"It's very frustrating because it's very bump and it tears the tires up on the cars," Stevison added.

Middle Drive is a private road. Public records show Robert Daley purchased it in a tax sale a few years ago.

In March of 2011 Daley said he had no plans to repair the road and was open to selling the land to the city or to adjacent landowners.

Business owners said bumpy Middle Drive is hurting their business.

"Yes it has hurt our business because the vehicles are being torn up. Some from the bumps and hard on peoples tires and someone should fix the problem," Creative Cuts worker Kendra Carloni said.

After making numerous phone calls to the City of Gulfport and local businesses in the area. I received good news. A source confirms there's a deal in the works to fix Middle Drive. Our source says Walmart, the City of Gulfport and nearby business owners are working with Daley on a temporary fix before the Holidays and a permanent fix by the end of the next year.
