9 Picks, LSU and Southern all look to bounce back this week

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A week "9 Picks" would like to forget. We finished with a 4-5 record and just like LSU and Southern we're looking forward to bouncing back this week. LSU hosts a hot South Carolina team, Southern is in good shape for win number three and Drew Brees and company enjoy a week off before traveling to Tampa Bay.

Big week, here we go:

#3 South Carolina (6-0) at #9 LSU (5-1)

Monday morning when selecting games to pick for the week I thought LSU had no chance to win this game. The offensive line is bruised and battered and there is no way they can stop Jadeveon Clowney and company. As for the defense, they admitted they were worn down against the Gators. Not good news when South Carolina's offense, with Connor Shaw and Marcus Lattimore, is very similar to Florida's offense, but better. With all that said, this is a must win for the Tigers, and Tiger Stadium will help the team rise to the occasion:

LSU: 20  South Carolina: 17

Texas Southern (1-5) at Southern (2-3)

Southern lost their first game under interim head coach Dawson Odums. The Jags played hard losing a heartbreaker to Alcorn State 20-17. Southern's running game has struggled this year and the coach has made it clear the team needs to be able to run the ball in the fourth quarter to win a game. This week Texas Southern comes calling and what a perfect team for Jags to do just that:

Southern: 27    Texas Southern: 20

#1 Alabama (5-0) at Missouri (3-3)

Wow, no James Franklin, no chance. Well, even if Franklin was playing the Tigers would have no chance. Missouri had its best shot at winning its first SEC game against Vandy and could not do it. It sure won't happen this weekend. This will be U-G-L-Y!

Alabama: 38    Missouri: 7

#4 Florida (5-0) at Vanderbilt (2-3)

Is Florida ripe for an upset? Not against Vandy. The Commodores will hang in there for a while, but the Gators will shake off the LSU hangover and take over in the second half:

Florida: 28    Vanderbilt: 13

Tennessee (3-2) at #19 Miss. State (5-0)

This is an interesting matchup. Miss. State is undefeated, but has not been very impressive in their victories, while Tennessee has lost a couple of tough games to good teams. Vols head coach Derek Dooley had hip surgery and will be in the press box for this one. The Vols play hard for him and win in an Upset Special:

Tennessee: 34    Miss. State:  24

#22 Texas A&M (4-1) at #23 Louisiana Tech (5-0)

Two high-powered offenses meet this weekend. What a great opportunity for the Bulldogs on national TV. Tech's defense is ranked 123rd in the nation and will prove to be the difference. A&M gets the nod in this one:

Texas A&M: 37    Louisiana Tech: 27

#15 Texas (4-1) at #13 Oklahoma (3-1)

Oklahoma has won the last two meetings between the teams, which includes a 55-17 thumping last year. This year the Sooners are averaging 38 points a game while the Longhorns are scoring 47 points per contest. This is a must win for both teams with West Virginia on such a roll. Boomer Sooner prevails:

Oklahoma: 38    Texas: 27

#18 Stanford (4-1) at #9 Notre Dame (5-0)

Notre Dame would like to settle on one quarterback, but they keep getting in trouble. Stanford is trying to get Andrew Luck's replacement to be more consistent on offense. The Irish are looking to make a strong move toward a chance to play in the BCS championship game. The home field advantage wins this one:

Notre Dame: 28    Stanford: 20

Kentucky (1-5) at Arkansas (2-4)

Two teams hit by serious injuries and disappointing records. Arkansas wins a game with two really bad teams:

Arkansas:  28    Kentucky: 16

LAST WEEK: 4-5 ... SEASON TOTAL: 22-12
