MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - Mississippi businesses are struggling to keep health care costs from eating into their profits. But state leaders just might have a way to help solve the problem.
The leaders are discussing their ideas at the third annual Mississippi healthcare reform summit. Governor Phil Bryant wants business leaders to promote healthy lifestyles, to prevent a financial strain on their health care providers. Which is something that would keep their costs down in the long run.
"It's remarkable how effective it has been when you're looking at someone that might have high blood pressure to prevent them from having a stroke, which costs your insurance carrier such a large amount," Governor Bryant said.
Mississippi companies like Viking Range say by encouraging employees to eat right and exercise, they have saved more than $1 million. So perhaps they could be on to something.
