PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

Rising gas prices are causing the Pascagoula School District to spend more money to transfer students to and from school.

Assistant superintendent of Student Services Bernard Rogers said right now the district has 80 buses. And the districts transports 3,000 students in both Pascagoula and Gautier.

He said a majority of the buses have to be filled up weekly with diesel. Since the 2009-2010 school year the gas budget has increased by 10 percent each year.

While there are no plans to cut routes the district is looking at ways to combine routes and keep maintenance up on vehicles.
