Gabriel Jackson is a listed at 6-1, 250 pounds. He was playing strictly a linebacker until Moss Point head coach Kevin Jackson decided to give Gab a shot at running back during practice last week.
Coach Jackson said, " Gab has really worked hard. He played running back 7th,8th and 9th grade and we moved him to linebacker. Just giving him a shot to run the ball a little bit and help us block."@
When the Tigers traveled to West Harrison Friday night on a wet turf, Gab Jackson responded and used his size and power to bull over would be tacklers, helping Moss Point shoot down the Hurricanes 40 to 7.
He cracked the goal line twice and claims this weeks "Domino's Pizza" Player of the Week honors.
Gab Jackson said, " I can't do it without the offensive line, the quarterback. Everybody carrying out their carrying out their assignment."
Coach Jackson added, "Gab has brought a different facet to our offense. You know he's a big kid that doesn't mind going up and blocking and we kind of rewarded him last week by giving him some touches and getting him into the end zone a couple of times."
Gab played both fullback and linebacker on Friday. He says going both ways is tough, but he's willing to do what's best for the Tigers.
"It turned out pretty good for the team., " Gab stated. "I'm doing best for the team. Come out here and work hard everyday and improve."
Will Gab Jackson see more playing time at fullback?
"That's going to be week to week and game plan and if we feel like he can be affective running the ball then that's what we'll do, "stated coach Jackson.
Moss Point entertains Long Beach 7:00 PM Friday at Dantzler Stadium.
