BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

There was a homecoming celebration for one Baton Rouge family Wednesday. The reunion, six weeks in the making, began during Hurricane Isaac when a scared dog ran.

It was all smiles and doggy hugs at the Hollier home Wednesday. The family is together again now that T'Chien is back from an interesting post-hurricane adventure.

"It's just so great. It's like having Christmas and a birthday all at once," said Fred Hollier.

An Army Corps worker from Illinois, who was in Baton Rouge during Hurricane Isaac, found T'Chien wandering around Florida Boulevard. He tried finding a shelter in Louisiana to take her, with no luck . That is how the pup ended up in the Henry County Humane Society in Illinois. T'Chen was not microchipped, but technology still ended up linking her back to Baton Rouge: Facebook.

"Mr. Hollier's daughter-in-law posted and we uploaded," said Allison Claudet with Lost Pets of Baton Rouge. "That's what we do. People post to our page, and then we upload and share with all of our fans. And we had just uploaded her picture and that's the first thing the director saw."

Claudet says a friend started the page late last year, and it is one of many online options for people who lose pets and even those who find them.

"People who like us, they're all avid animal lovers. And it's just like a pull to try to help find someone's pet. And it's just a wonderful feeling when there is a reunion," said Claudet.

Hollier is thankful they helped him have his reunion.

"Without y'all , I would not have T'Chien back. Because I mean after all, she was over 900 miles away and how in the world would I ever think to look 900 miles away," said Hollier.

Volunteers with On Wings of Care, drove up to Illinois to pick up T'Chien and brought her home Wednesday morning. Several other non-profits helped to pay for their travel as well as a care package full of toys for T'Chien.
