BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -
Biloxi investigators have captured the man who allegedly broke away from police custody Tuesday afternoon.
According to Biloxi Police Chief John Miller, 25-year-old Jamal Shontel Stokes was nabbed around 7:00 Wednesday morning. He was reportedly found in a pool house after the home owner noticed the door was unlocked and called police.
When Stokes initially disappeared, police said he had an active warrant in Gulfport through city court for contempt-failure to appear.
A Biloxi police officer spotted Stokes in his vehicle at a traffic stop with his two cousins earlier in the day. Biloxi Sgt. Ken Campbell said the officer pulled Stokes over and arrested him after discovering his warrant. But, instead of getting into the police car, Stokes allegedly ran across the road with his hands cuffed behind his back. Authorities searched for Stokes in a wooded area north of I-10 and west of exit 41 in Woolmarket.
Chief Miller said Stokes could face additional charges.
