It's a voyage that helps introduce tourists to those small waterfront towns that they may not ordinarily think to visit. A cruise ship docked in Biloxi on Wednesday night. Then on Thursday, passengers visited several attractions including the Biloxi lighthouse and the visitors center. The Grande Caribe set sail from New Orleans and will continue on until it reaches St. Petersburg. Crew members said it's the stops along the way that makes these small cruises stand out.
BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Back Bay Mission in Biloxi wants to continue to help the less fortunate. Right now, phase one of a duplex is under construction. And by the end of the year, two veterans will have a brand new place to call home.

"Homeport is a development we are doing for homeless veterans," said Everett Lewis with Back Bay Mission.

Lewis said he and his team are working hard to finish the home that sits off Division Street in Biloxi, just east of I-110.

"Funding from HUD through the supportive housing program," said Lewis. "It's just a collaborative effort to make this work."

The VA is part of that collaboration. It will actually be the organization that runs the home housing two deserving veterans.

"The VA will actually council and case manage the veterans that will be selected to go into the project," said Lewis. "The Biloxi Housing Authority is going to project base two vouchers for covering the cost for the operations of the project."

As the first part of the project is constructed, the second set of homes are already being discussed.

"It's a duplex, so we are going to house two veterans. This is phase one. We are certainly hoping we can secure funding to do phase two and do a minimum of four more units on that site."

The VA will also play an important role in choosing the two vets that will occupy the home.

Lewis said the home should be finished the first week of December.
