GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -
Jawara Harris, 34, of Gautier, was arrested Saturday and charged with
murder just a few hours after Cornelius Ramey was shot and killed in
Gautier.
The shooting happened just after noon in South Gautier.
Family and friends of 25-year-old Cornelius Ramey are still coming to
grips with the shocking loss of their loved one.
"He was someone that you would always want to have right there close to you," the victim's stepmother, Katrina Watson, said.
"You
could ask for anything and he'd give it to you. He was really sweet,
really smart and funny. I'm going to miss him, I really am," cousin
Kiara Baker said.
Ramey, who was preparing to leave for college,
was shot outside of a home near Clemson Circle. Even though an arrest
has been made, it gives little comfort to the grieving family.
"I
didn't think it was true and I didn't believe it. I didn't want to
believe it. I just didn't want to believe it," Baker said.
Ramey's family vows to honor his life and not let this loss get the best of them.
"We're
going to be strong and we're going to keep the family together and stay
positive. We're not going to think negatively or anything like that.
We're just going to keep it positive. I've been through a lot and I knew
everything that kind of went on. So I'm going to always be the strong
one for the family," Watson said.
Harris was arrested in
Biloxi, where he was spotted by police who were alerted to be on the
lookout for his car. He's being held at the at the Jackson County Adult
Detention Center awaiting an initial bond hearing.
