The Heart Challenge is a friendly competition between WLOX-TV and The Sun Herald to get heart healthy. The competition aims to promote heart healthy living.
The Heart Challenge will last about two months and will culminate with the American Heart Walk on August 28th in Gulfport.
Knowing your heart disease risk is important, so members of both media teams took a series of tests with the help of Garden Park and Memorial Hospitals. The tests included blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, body fat index, and weight. The tests are the first step in helping team members make lifestyle changes that will make them heart healthy.
Becky Ginn with the American Heart Association says through the media Heart Challenge, "We're trying to let people see you can take care of yourself, make good health choices, and hopefully prevent heart attacks or strokes."
Team members will get a second check up in eight weeks and all hope to make health improvements. Ginn says the Heart Challenge is designed to inspire everyone.
