Coach Eric Collins has gained the respect of his players and his assistant coaches. They know under his leadership, Pearl River Central can compete for the playoffs year-in and year-out. Last season the Blue Devils posted 9 wins and 4 losses and cracked the playoffs for the first time in years and upset Wayne County.
Running back Desmond Michel says Collins is their leader.
Michel said, "He came in and helped us and brought the Lord into our football team and without him I don't know where we would be. He's a great coach and I'm happy to have him on our team as our leader. He's a great mentor."
This past Friday Pearl River Central jumped out to a 14-0 lead over top ranked Picayune before losing 21-20. Despite not having the overall talent of the Maroon Tide, Collins knows how to get the most of each and everyone of his players, and they never quit.
Linebacker Adam Perrone said, "He's a great coach. He's gets us motivated every week and he's turned the program around. I love the coach."
Pearl River Central defensive coordinator Seth Smith says coach Collins is a spiritual leader, motivating his players on and off the field.
Smith stated, "Not only as a coach but as a man he teaches God first and I think that's incredible. We give all the glory to the good Lord. Work ethic and attitude he pushes on them everyday This whole turnaround is a testament to coach Collins and the type of kids we have. We've fortunate to have him as our coach and our leaders."
That says it all.
