Putnam County, IN (WLOX) -

WLOX News has learned a Pascagoula mother and her 3-year-old daughter were killed in an interstate crash in Indiana Friday evening.

Indiana State Police said Emma Bronson, 49, and Zacchia Bronson, 3, were involved in a multi-vehicle crash on I-70 around 6:30 Friday evening.

Police said it appears a semi truck hauling a trailer failed to stop for construction which led to a chain reaction crash involving four cars.

The Bronson's BMW caught fire, and the toddler was trapped inside. Police managed to get Emma Bronson out of the car, but she later died of her injuries.

Authorities say the driver of the BMW was Michael Bronson, the husband and father of the victims. The Bronsons were the only two fatalities in the crash.

The crash happened about 40 miles outside of Indianapolis, near mile marker 43.

Police say the crash remains under investigation and no citations have been issued.
