BAYOU CORNE, LA (WAFB) -
According to the Assumption Parish Police
Jury, 25-feet of land have fallen into the giant sink-hole, or slurry, in the
Grand Bayou and Bayou Corne area.
Twenty five feet on the east side of the
slurry, closer to Texas Brine's office building, fell into the sinkhole and
took several trees with it. The original size of the sinkhole was 200 square
feet. Before this latest slough-in, two other slough-ins occurred taking about
20 feet each, along with trees.
Texas Brine started drilling just after 7:30
Thursday morning. Texas Brine owns the salt dome that is believed to be
responsible for the massive sinkhole and tremors in Bayou Corne.
Texas Brine says experts are getting their
first look inside the cavern Thursday. A group of scientists will meet to
discuss how best to test and sample the contents of the cavern.
A meeting is scheduled for Thursday night,
September 20, 2012, held by the public demanding Louisiana Officials give
better updates on the giant sinkhole.
WAFB will be at the meeting and will have the latest on wafb.com.
