BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - There's a restaurant on Pass Road, near Keesler Gate 7, that can satisfy your hunger and your desire to help those need.
Catfish, Wings and Things held a grand re-opening Tuesday to show off their expanded dining area. What makes this place special is that 100 percent of the profits made at the restaurant go towards the Faith Tabernacle of Praise Women's Resource and Empowerment Center. It's an organization that provides a safe haven for homeless women and children.
"What we found over our years of serving the community is that there's more places for homeless men to go in Harrison County than there is for homeless women and children," said Sandra Taylor, Program Director for the Empowerment Center.
The group offers services like job training, resume' building and life skill building. The center also provides counseling and helps temporary tenants find permanent homes, and it's all for free.
Charity Felton had been living in her truck before receiving help from the organization. She said the center helped her to find a permanent home, and provided her meals. Now, she works for Catfish,Wings and Things.
Taylor said she has helped women from all walks of life, some who came from abusive situations and others who were just released from jail and were looking to start new lives. She said she's also seen women who were beaten down by a bad economy, which cost them their jobs and homes.
Catfish, Wings and Things is located at 1680 Pass Road in Biloxi. The empowerment center can be reached at (228) 374-3010.
