JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Donated food and other supplies continue to pour into the Helena Community Center to help the flood victims of Jackson County. Monday, two truck loads of supplies arrived, courtesy of Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.
The secretary sent a shipment of bleach, cleaning supplies and food products. It's the second time he's helped organize shipments of donations and supplies to the storm stricken areas of South Mississippi. An earlier shipment went to victims in Pearl River County.
Relief workers in Helena say the support is much needed since many residents will be out of their homes while they undergo repairs.
"The food is helping wherever they have to stay. The Clorox is taking care of the mold that's growing," said Darlene Whittington with the Sisters Relief group. "It's going to be a long time and a long process for these people. But with our help and everybody's help, they'll be back in there."
Whittington said a growing number of church groups, private businesses and others have donated much-needed supplies to help the storm victims in Jackson County.
