SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Voters in two counties went to the polls Tuesday to vote on school bond issues.
Voters in the unincorporated areas of Hancock County approved a $16 million bond issue. The money will be used to fund upgrades to Hancock County schools and address safety issues. More than 77 percent of voters there supported the issue.
But in George County, the school bond issue didn't even come close to passing. The final vote tally had only 39.7 percent of voters in favor.
The $18 million bond issue would have paid for improvements to all eight schools in the district.
