JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - WLOX News has learned the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is looking into an incident with the Jackson County Narcotics Task Force.
Law enforcement sources have confirmed to WLOX News that a member of the task force discharged his weapon at the Pascagoula office in July, injuring another officer.
Sheriff Mike Byrd called it "an accidental discharge of a weapon." Byrd told WLOX News a bullet hit the floor and a piece of tile dislodged, scraping an officer in the leg.
The incident was "reported immediately and disciplinary action was taken" according to Byrd. He described the whole thing as "a personnel matter."
