Brandy Williams found guilty of capital murder

Brandy Williams will spend the rest of her life in prison for the murder of George County Sheriff Garry Welford. It took a jury less than an hour to convict Williams of capital murder Monday.

The courtroom was packed with family and fellow officers as the verdict was read.

District Attorney Tony Lawrence was pleased with the verdict, saying, "This nightmare began on July 21, 2010 for the family of Garry Welford and the George County community. Today's verdict brings some closure to the Welford family, but will never bring Garry back. It is refreshing to see that the rule of law still means something in today's society where so often we see tragedy."

Sheriff Welford was run down in July 2010 as Williams and her boyfriend, Christopher Baxter, were fleeing authorities.

Williams was driving the truck at the time. Baxter was sentenced to life in prison in May.
