HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Celebrity Chef Cat Cora was among hundreds of volunteers at the Red Cross Disaster Operations Headquarters in Hattiesburg Monday preparing to head out with relief supplies for Hurricane Isaac victims.
Cora is best known for her role as an Iron Chef on the Food Network. More recently she co-hosted a reality competition show called Around the World in 80 Plates on the Bravo Network.
Cora is a native of Jackson and a Southern Miss graduate. She is also co-founder of Chef's for Humanity, an organization that works to reduce world hunger.
Monday, she was given a tour of the disaster headquarters, then she jumped on board a Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle to assist with the distribution of relief supplies.
"The operation here is amazing. They are on top of it from communications, to gathering their partners, to making sure people are fed and warm," said Cora. "I think they are doing a phenomenal job and they will continue doing it until the job is done."
Cora spent the day in Walthal County assisting with the relief efforts and helping to build morale.
