BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The American Red Cross announced on Sunday it would begin to distribute hot meals, water, snacks and other disaster relief supplies solely through its emergency response vehicles. There will be no distribution on DeBuys Road as planned earlier.
Glenn Lockwood, director for the American Red Cross disaster relief operation in Mississippi, said the change will ensure the relief supplies will be in the hands of South Mississippi families who were actually devastated in Hurricane Isaac.
"The mobile response vehicles will be navigating through affected areas and announce via loudspeaker that they are in the vicinity so that residents will be aware that help is there," said Lockwood.
Officials said they also have concerns some of the most heavily affected residents may not have transportation.
All Red Cross disaster assistance is free and made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people.
