BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

He was commander of Keesler Air Force Base, the first director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, and a former candidate for Congress here in South Mississippi.

Former Keesler commander, Major General Paul Harvey died Tuesday morning at a hospital in Jackson.

During the latter part of his military career, Harvey commanded the troops at Keesler from 1988 to 1991 when he retired. Harvey was then named the first executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission.

In the 90s, the republican even made a run for Congress against then incumbent Congressman Gene Taylor.

Born in 1937, Major General Paul Harvey was 75.
