Coach Tommy Browder has developed a high octane explosive offensive attack. Junior quarterback Thad Miller pulls the trigger and he'll be aiming in the direction of number 3... Chad Cook.
The 5-foot-9, 140 pound senior lacks size but what he lacks in size he makes up in pure blazing speed.
Browder said,"He's got a lot of experience been a three-way starter for us, probably one of the fastest players on the coast. Good hands, good knowledge running routes . He's a leader for us as well."
"Usually speed helps me to get away from a lot of people,"Cook stated. He added, "I'm not the biggest guy but I can break it with the presence of speed."
In 2011 Cook helped the Bearcats post 5 wins and 2 losses in the tough Region 4-5A ranks, tied for second place with Pascagoula behind eventual state champion Picayune.
Cook had 721 yards receiving with 6 touchdowns. He added two rushing Td's and he's also a threat to take it to the house on punt and kickoff returns.
Does Cook have a shot at receiving a Division One football scholarship?
Browder said, "I think he's got a chance with his speed. You know he's not the biggest kid on the coast but he can run well and has got great hands."
Besides his stellar offensive and special teams play, Cook also excels at defensive back. He's shown here at practice wearing jersey Number One. Playing both offense and defense does it put a lot of pressure on him on Friday nights?
Cook said, "It doesn't put that much pressure on me. But we have to play both ways and stick it out. That's what conditioning is for."
Chad Cook, one of the most exciting high school football players on the coast, a game breaker and game changer.
Long Beach won't begin the 2012 season until August 24th traveling to Hancock.
