Fantastic. That's the only way to describe the Olympic feat accomplished by Gulfport's Brittney Reese. Brittney won the gold medal Wednesday in the woman's long jump, leaping an incredible 23 plus feet.

It's a moment she has trained for the last several years. And true to her nature, she dedicated the medal to the Gulf Coast and the victim's of Katrina.

What Brittney has done is nothing short of incredible. Think about it. A humble young woman from Gulfport is now the greatest in the world in her chosen sport.

She took time to thank her mentors over the years, from high school to college, giving them credit for pushing her to be the best. And now that she is, it's time for the people of the coast to return that thanks.

Brittney returns to the coast Saturday evening about 6pm at the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport. We urge everyone to show up and congratulate her on her hard fought victory.

She has done herself proud, and made her country, her state, and her hometown proud as well. Well done, Brittney.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
