7-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Pearl River County

A day of fun turned tragic in South Mississippi on Friday. A seven-year-old Pearl River County boy drowned while playing in the MaGee Creek.

Henry Clay LaCompt, III was reported missing at 3:22 p.m. Picayune divers found the boy's body at 7:01 p.m.

One adult and three other children were swimming with the boy. The other children said Harry told them he knew how to swim.

A deputy says a strong current may have pulled Henry into deeper waters.

A number of local agencies assisted in the search, including the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department, Picayune Police Department, Mississippi Wildlife and Fisheries, Pine Grove Fire Department, Carriere Fire Department, Swift Water Rescue Team, and volunteer dog units.
