Device Found At Gulf Park Campus Not A Bomb

Biloxi Police Chief Bruce Dunagan is now saying a device found Friday at the Gulf Park Campus of USM Gulf Coast is not a bomb.

Dunagan said upon inspection, the Biloxi bomb squad discovered the device was actually a homemade battery pack.

The FBI has a person in custody that they believe made the device. Police originally thought the item could be a pipe bomb.

USM faculty discovered the device inside a book bag at the school's library building around 3pm Friday afternoon.

USM spokeswoman Shelia White said the campus was evacuated shortly after the discovery was made. White couldn't say whether any type of threat had been called in to officials.
