GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

A 5-year-old boy was found dead in a pool Thursday afternoon, according to Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove.

Hargrove said, Rashawn Thompson drowned in the Mark IV Gardens Apartment pool located on Gould Road in Gulfport.

Hargrove said a woman, who was swimming in the pool, found Thompson under the water.

The pool is fenced however, Gulfport Police Capt. Neal Stachura said, he is not sure if the gate was latched when Thompson entered the pool.

It took fire fighters several attempts to pull Thompson out of the deep end of the pool because it was so murky, Hargrove said.

"You could see three-feet into the deep end," Hargrove said. "It's at least eight feet deep."

According to Hargrove, the cause of death is accidental drowning. Thompson was pronounced dead at Garden Park Hospital.

Stachura said no charges are expected at this time.
