MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) -

The bad weather across the coast last week caused some tense moments at the Moss Point Fire Department.

Fire officials said a lightning bolt hit close to the fire department Thursday evening. According Captain Rodger Mann, the lightning hit a tall pole, located next to the building and broke the top of it off. It shattered a window, shook the building and even cracked the concrete.

Mann said he is happy no one was injured since there were firefighters in the building.

"Lightning is a surprise anytime it strikes, that close to you. You never think that is going to happen. It was really close to the building, but everyone is doing okay," Mann said.

Firefighters said they believe lightning also struck one of the four wheel drive trucks and now the vehicle will not start.

The department is working on calculating the total cost of the damage caused by the lightning.
