BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Several South Mississippi children are back to school ready thanks to a children's health fair at Edgewater Mall Saturday. This is the 26th year the Edgewater Rotary Club has hosted the fair.
Around 400 children stopped in to get free dental, hearing and vision screenings. Parents could also get their children's shots and even get their fingerprints taken.
Participants went home with lots of school supplies and other goodies. Miss Mississippi Marie Wicks was even on hand signing autographs and helping with eye screenings.
"It's very important to me, because it just trickles over into lots of other aspects of your life. You need to be able to see clearly in order to get an education and to provide for your family. And to be successful in the world," Wicks said.
Some of the kids who attended the fair were up-to-date on their dental visits, however, some were not.
"We see some kids still in a great deal of need. So our job today [Saturday] is to advise the parents that they may have some dental problems, that may cause some problems in school. And that's what all the docs are doing," Dr. Peter Norowski with the Edgewater Rotary Club said.
