HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A dead sea turtle washed up on the beach in Hancock County Monday morning. Someone on the beach reported the turtle not far the Silver Slipper campground.

Dr. Moby Solangi with the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies told WLOX News one of his crews is on the way to pick up the animal.

Solangi also told us IMMS took in 12 injured turtles this weekend alone. Apparently, the endangered turtles are getting snagged on fishing hooks. Solangi speculates the turtles are coming closer to shore to feed, and are going after bait on hooks.
